Welcome!

After graduating from Golden Gate University with a master’s degree in finance, I was equipped with all of the quantitative skills any good investment advisor needs.  However as time went on I began to realize that to be a successful financial planner I needed insight into my client’s lives and businesses. I had to be able to see what they were seeing…their hopes, their fears, their uncertainties…I had to see their life as they did. Then the application of all my learning and studying became tools to help them reach their goals.

Life experiences…successes, failures, joys and tragedies, family and friends all combine to shape our outlook and our attitudes about the future. Psychology is simply the art of understanding the range of human emotions that help drive our decision making and our ability to respond positively to changes as they occur.

Fortunately I have been able to experience a wide range of occupations and life experiences.  For fifteen years after a tour in the Marine Corps I managed companies in different industries, and have started and sold two businesses myself. This business experience helps me provide real world advice to business clients.

My graduate education in finance and taxation as well as my family experiences and the opportunity to live in many different parts of the country have helped me relate to families and their financial issues. I understand the issues of kids, college educations, money and estate planning from first hand experience, having put two through college with a third finishing up. Both my wife and I have lost parents. I can relate to the problems of the elderly!

When combined with 28 years of experience working with a wide variety of client situations, I bring to the table the ability to see life and life solutions that are client driven.

I have been fortunate to be able to continue to work in my chosen profession while enjoying a full and fun life. Family and friends, grandchildren, travel and my clients are my focus. Skiing in the winter, tennis, fishing and horses in the summer occupy my spare time.

The marvels of modern communication allow me to live where I want and yet serve a client base scattered throughout the country.

I am active in my community.  I have been President of the Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary and a supporter of their Challenge Scholarship program for high school students.  Our family continues to support the arts and a number of local charitable organizations.

Since 1991 I have written a weekly newspaper column for a variety of newspapers on the West Coast. The blog posts that you will find on this web site are actual columns written to inform and educate on financial matters or they are taken from my "Horse Sense" email column, which explains a lot of the horse pictures! Much of the material was inspired by actual situations I worked on as a planner.  I hope you will find them informative and useful. Some of the photography is compliments of our family photographer, Sean Cayton, who operates a successful wedding and family photography business in Colorado.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my web site.  I hope we can meet some day and take a look at your road ahead!
